The buoyant, yet soothing sounds of ‘Mixture,’ is surprisingly transformative, much like Joey Stuckey himself. This is the first full length jazz CD from Joey and it is rich with melodious tracks that sway, bop and groove in more directions than one. The album reflects a jazzier dynamic, yet still maintains the earthy feel of Joey’s Georgia roots.
‘Mixture’ is essentially a blend of vivacious talent. “My friend Tom Rule has played keyboard in my band with me for many years,” says Joey. “In late 2010 we started the writing sessions. They were a little sporadic, but, we are both so busy teaching and performing, it couldn't be helped. We kept writing together and finally came up with 10 jazz tracks we both were happy with. I decided to make those recordings, ‘Mixture,’ my next album to be released.”
Joey brings musical flavors of guitar greats like John McLaughlin, Rus Freeman, Steve Khan and Frank Gambale, creating a blend of musical prowess on the album. Tom Rule, performs outstanding keyboards, reminiscent of Hurby Hancock, Oscar Peterson and Dave Brubeck. Miguel Castro and Marcus Reddick aptly perform percussion, in the vein of Tito Puente and Mango Santa Maria. ‘Mixture’ also features special guest performances by Pam Rule (vocals) and Monty Cole (flute).
According to Rule, the process was exciting. “What do you get when you combine the music from a blind guitarist who is as sexy as Elvis with half the fat, with a left-handed dyslexic classically trained jazz keyboardist?” comments Rule, “Mixture! This album is a combination of experiences, talents, and musical approaches that come together to create a whole that is greater than its parts. The music is interesting, full of ear candy, and deep, yet accessible - the way we like it!”
Joey officially launched ‘Mixture’ at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame on July 20, 2012, before an eager jazz-loving community from near and far. “I have always had a heart and passion for jazz,” says Joey. “I even call my rock style - jazz infused rock with southern attitude. Jazz has been a long-time musical companion and love of mine. Music at its best is a spiritual experience and somehow these tracks all came together and the time just seemed perfect to release my first full length jazz album. Since my jazz EP "Oceanside" [released in 2009], I have been looking for a chance to do more jazz ever since.”
The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Joey’s studio, Shadow Sound Studio, which allowed the artist to work with some of Middle Georgia’s best players including, Monty Cole, Marcus Reddick, Miguel Castro and Tom Rule, who co-wrote and co- produced ‘Mixture.’

About ‘Mixture’
If you are looking for the next classic jazz recording to add to your collection, or just some great tunes to groove to, Joey Stuckey’s full length jazz CD, ‘Mixture,’ needs to be added to your collection!
Blind guitarist Joey Stuckey brings flavors of guitar greats like John McLaughlin, Rus Freeman, Steve Khan and Frank Gambale to his newest full length jazz album, ‘Mixture.’ Fans will be ecstatic as they get their jazz guitar fix. The album features outstanding keyboards from Tom Rule, reminiscent of Hurby Hancock, Oscar Peterson and Dave Brubeck; percussion from the masters, Miguel Castro and Marcus Reddick in the vein of Tito Puente and Mango Santa Maria; and special guest performances by Pam Rule (vocals) and Monty Cole (Flute). The music on ‘Mixture’ bops, swings and rocks.
What the jazz elite are saying about ‘Mixture’:
“From their very first notes, Joey Stuckey and Tom Rule invite you to sit and dine with them. Their joy for music is immediately apparent. Their melodies are just good clean fun as they dance and dart about, weaving their lines with elegant restraint through tender fields of the soul. With impeccable rhythm and drive, they insist that your head bobs, your feet move, your eyes light up and you must, you simply must, grin from ear to ear. They play with gorgeous tone and varied orchestration and their phrasing is exact. There is nothing more exciting than listening to musicians who are on top of their game, and that is exactly what we get here: two of the best, at their best.”
- Terence Cantwell Professor of Music , Macon State College and Mercer University
“Joey Stuckey was already an accomplished player when he came to me for lessons several years ago, wanting to broaden his jazz horizons. We hit it off right away and each lesson was a joy. In fact Joey has learned so much, he is now an accredited teacher of my Jazz Science Guitar Institute. This album reflects a jazzier dynamic, yet it still has the earthy feel of his Georgia roots.”
- Professor Steve Crowell, author of ‘The 84 jazz Equations’
“These tracks are a departure from the high-energy and edgy blues playing that leaps to mind when you hear the name Joey Stuckey. Smooth jazz is the latest frontier and the legendary guitar virtuoso is blazing a trail of softer hues across the sound spectrum. Ably partnered with pianist Tom Rule the group has already established a solid foundation in the new style--just in time for summer. A host of other musicians make appearances and the result is soothing, satisfying and soulful.”
- Dr. Monty Cole, Professor of Jazz Studies, Mercer University
