Alive Day 2019!

Well, it’s September and that means it is Georgia music month. But in the Stuckey household, it is also "Alive Day". As of 2017, by mayoral proclamation, September 29th is recognized officially in Macon-Bibb as "Joey Stuckey Alive Day".

So just what does that mean?

Well, September 29th is the day I beat the brain tumor that was supposed to kill me. The doctors said that if I survived, which they considered an unlikely event, I wasn't supposed to ever walk or talk. My life has been one of great adventure, some hard times and some of great joy as well and I wouldn't trade any of it! Yes, the brain tumor left me blind and without a sense of smell, and, even more challenging, I have no adrenal function which has been a difficult health challenge to bear these 40 years. However, I also have amazing friends, a loving family and though I have to do some things differently, I also have the career in music and inspirational speaking that I want.

The past 2 years have been filled with travails and triumphs! I did have to have a full shoulder replacement, which wasn't as much fun as I had hoped. But I have also toured all over the US this year with my band and am working hard to create a unique new recording facility and these things are going very well indeed. I usually write a blog post on “Alive Day” to say thank you to everyone for their love and support and to remind you, dear reader, that if a blind brain tumor survivor with no adrenal function and a metal hip and metal shoulder can live a life of success and intention, so can you.

But this year, I also want to let you know that I have been proud of the two “Joey Stuckey Alive Day” free concerts we have brought to middle Georgia and while we aren't having one this year, it is only because the shoulder surgery made me a lot sicker than I could have imagined. So we couldn't do the festival in 2019, but I intend to bring it back next year as part of the celebration of my new studio and to continue to join with you in lifting up our community with a day of music, affirmation and positivity.

In the meantime, here are some great videos of past years of the festival! Enjoy!
